Boost’s thoughts on the ITV ‘This Morning’ Segment
Hey guys! Did you see this special segment on ITV This Morning about Breast Pain and bra fitting?
We thought we’d weigh in with our Breast knowledge and talk about some of our findings in this area.
The Segment, chatting with the Bra Professor, Joanna Wakefield-Scurr, about bra fitting and breast pain was informative and showcased the fantastic Bravissimo Post Surgery Bra. Bravissimo and Boost have a long history of collaboration and we’re delighted to see them featured on the telly!
But on to discussing the segment:
Breast Pain is actually shockingly common and we think it’s great that ITV is raising awareness about something that so many people struggle with. Focusing the first half of the segment on breast pain is such a great way to inform viewers about all the different types of breast pain and what might cause it.
At Boost, we often deal with discussion of breast pain in relation to breast cancer or post-surgery pain, however, it is important to alleviate fears: pain on its own is not a sign of cancer and is only majorly concerning if paired with other symptoms. Most breast pain, as discussed in the ITV This Morning segment, is related to something completely different – eg. hormonal cycles, pain in the muscles under or around the breast causing it to hurt and, as mostly focused on, movement related pain.
Not a lot is known about what makes breast pain hurt like it does, with there being even less research into noncyclic breast pain that’s not tied to hormones. Annoyingly, there’s not much research into what can be done to alleviate it, with the ITV This Morning show mostly focusing on how proper bra fitting can help. This is a commonly cited way to reduce some pain but for certain forms of breast pain, it’s a bit more difficult to know what will help. Many people with cyclic breast pain swear by Primrose Oil, and while the scientific evidence for it working is weak, it seems it does have some kind of alleviating effect, as so many people swear it works and the NHS still suggests it, even if it isn’t prescribed anymore.
It’s fantastic that ITV are shouting out loads of great bras, talking candidly about breast pain and featuring post surgery products. Although, just because you’ve had a mastectomy, doesn’t mean you have to switch to a pocketed bra as there are alternate Breast Forms designed to fit against the skin in any bra.
