Carbon Reduction Plan

Statement:

  • Boost is an environmentally conscious design, innovation and manufacturing company. We have a commitment to reaching Net Zero emissions by 2040.
  • Our Carbon Reduction Plan validates our business’s commitment to achieving Net Zero in line with the UK Government’s commitment under the Climate Change Act.
  • Using and collecting the carbon emission data from our business’ carbon footprint,  we create an actionable and tailored Carbon Reduction Plan to help our business prepare for a greener, zero carbon future.
  • Our Carbon Reduction Plan contains carefully identified carbon reduction targets and defined actions to achieve the sustainability goals we’ve set . This is reviewed and  updated annually.

2023 as a baseline – a note for context

As a micro business founded with a commitment to sustainability, we have taken measures in each scope area in 2023 to make sure our carbon footprint is as low as possible. However, these figures are based on our current operational set up – in the course of 2024 we are planning to move our facility to a new, larger building. We anticipate that this will, by the nature of our growth, temporarily affect our CO2 emissions. We are working with a specialist surveyor to implement equipment and infrastructure to this building that will minimise scope 1 and scope 2 impacts. In terms of our commitment to Net Zero, this means that a baseline level of data in the new building will need to be collected so we can monitor our continued performance improvements in the new setting. As such, this new baseline data collection is a key action in our Carbon Reduction Plan.

Summary of Scope 1 Emissions

As we are located in a small Cornish village, there is no access to mains gas. Therefore, our Scope 1 emissions are zero.

Summary of Scope 2 Emissions

At present, are a small team of 3.5 FTE staff who work for around 60% of the time at home. Boost has an office base, which is a small light industrial unit next to a private dwelling. The power for the unit is drawn from solar panels on the roof of the dwelling. This means that our scope 2 emissions in 2023 are minimal at 6.9 metric tons of Co2 for the year.

Summary of scope 3 Emissions

As a small business, we make careful purchasing decisions. However, our impact assessment shows that the majority of our carbon footprint comes from Scope 3 emissions at 91.1 metric tons of CO2 for the year.
