Meet the Boost Team – Marie

Want to know more about the wonderful humans who work at Boost? Of course you do! Each week a member of the Boost team will be writing a blog to introduce themselves and their role. We hope that you enjoy getting to know us better!

This week’s blog is by Marie!

Ahoj! My name is Marie and I am the designer at Boost Innovations.

A few years ago, I decided it was time to leave my home country, Czech Republic, to learn more about design. Three years forward, I am a fresh graduate of Falmouth University and I’m part of a great team and doing what I love!

I was at the beginning of my third year at the Sustainable Product Design course in Falmouth when I got approached by Sam. Including high school, I was studying art and design for more than 7 years by that point and working on presenting my designs online. At first I joined Boost as an intern whilst still working at a fast food chain. I had many part-time jobs throughout my teenage years, mostly in hospitality. I was always able to find some positives about them. And of course, all of them paid my bills! But when Sam told me Boost was looking for their first employee (Boost consisted of Sam and Chris only at that point!) I couldn’t wait to start my new adventure!

My role at Boost involves many different areas of design, which gives me an opportunity to learn every day! So far, I had a chance to work on a new upcoming product from our recycled Boosts (psssst)! I designed the print for Boost’s tote bag merch and I have been doing a lot of day-to-day graphic design tasks. Recently I got a chance to redesign our website too!

Another of my growing skills, sustainability, comes handy at Boost! Sustainability, and environmental awareness have been strong topics of the recent years and even though many feel crossed with the repetition of these topics, we all know we (as a humanity) still have a lot to do. I have been interested in protecting nature since I was a little girl, perhaps the strong bond comes from growing up in the beautiful Beskydy mountains in Czech. So I am so grateful to be part of the important conversations about the impact of the company. Being able to influence some of the decisions isn’t something I was expecting to do so early in my career.

As you may know by now, Boost was built on the personal story of Sam’s mum’s experience with breast cancer. This family approach, closeness and importance of people above all is still being carried out now. The core of Boost’s purpose is to empower women and help them get through their hard times in comfort and with style. I’m so proud I can be a part of the Boost family!
