A Pause for Menopause
Did you know that chemotherapy can bring on temporary or early menopause symptoms? You probably did. The 18th October is World Menopause Day, so this week’s blog is taking a pause for the menopause.
When we first started working on the ideas for our breast form revolution, we knew that this was something we needed to consider. Listening to the experiences of women who are suddenly dealing with so many changes to their bodies made us totally committed to developing products that might help.
Hot flushes, sweats and mood swings are amongst some of the issues that women told us about. Usually, a menopause is a ‘wind down’ type of thing, a gradual process that happens over a few years. With chemotherapy, this process can happen in just a few months and so it can feel rather intense! Combine that with breast prosthesis wearing, and it can be an uncomfortable combination.
So, how exactly do the Boost team do our best to help?
Well, of course we designed our products to help air to circulate through them. We made sure that we did our best to minimise skin contact to avoid extra heat or uncomfortable sweating. We wanted to make our products look nice, and to be available in ‘feel good’ colours to add a little positivity to your day.
But the best suggestions obviously come from our Boost community. Here’s our top three.
1) Wear cool, comfortable clothing and try to layer up. This helps you to cool down when you have a hot flush, but stay warm when you don’t. There’s some wonderful clothes made specifically to help manage menopausal flushes from companies like Fifty One Apparel https://fiftyoneapparel.com/ which might help.
2) Keep cold drinks to hand. Staying hydrated is good for you anyway, but if you are feeling hot and bothered, an ice cool glass of water could do the trick.
3) Put your Boost in the FRIDGE for a few hours before you wear it. Yes, you heard us. And we’ve verified this at Boost HQ. Put your Boost in the fridge, it’s lovely and cool against your chest if those hot flushes are getting in the way. Why not give it a try?
